Quality can sometimes sound like a technical term, yet for a patient it can be as simple as receiving the right care, in the right way, at the right time. Safe processes, accurate information, effective communication and well trained healthcare professionals all contribute to the quality of care a person receives.
Quality Month provides an opportunity to look at the systems behind healthcare and consider how they can be strengthened. From preventing avoidable errors to improving patient experiences, quality improvement is an ongoing process rather than something that happens once.
For patients, quality also means feeling heard and respected. Asking questions, understanding treatment options and knowing where to raise concerns can help people become more involved in their own healthcare.
