Disability Rights Awareness Month

Disability Rights Awareness Month

Access, inclusion and dignity should not have limits

Disability can affect people in many different ways, and accessibility needs are not the same for everyone. What should remain the same is the right to participate, make decisions and access services without unnecessary barriers.

Disability Rights Awareness Month runs from 3 November to 3 December, spanning two months before concluding on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The observance encourages communities to look beyond disability itself and consider the barriers that can limit participation in education, employment, healthcare and everyday life.

Inclusive healthcare means more than having a ramp at the entrance. It can involve accessible digital information, suitable communication methods, appropriate facilities and healthcare professionals who listen to each patient’s needs.

Creating a more inclusive society benefits everyone. When barriers are removed, people have greater opportunity to live independently, contribute to their communities and make informed decisions about their own lives.
