Every person deserves to feel safe, respected and valued throughout every stage of life. Yet many older adults experience abuse, neglect or exploitation behind closed doors, often at the hands of people they know and trust. These experiences can affect not only their physical health, but also their dignity, confidence and emotional wellbeing.
Observed each year on 15 June, World Elder Abuse Awareness Day shines a light on an issue that is often overlooked. The campaign encourages individuals, families and communities to recognise the signs of elder abuse, speak out against mistreatment and help create environments where older people feel protected and supported.
Respecting older generations means more than acknowledging their contributions. It means ensuring they can age with dignity, independence and compassion. By raising awareness and encouraging action, we can help create safer communities where every older person is treated with the care and respect they deserve.
