A stroke can happen suddenly, and recognising the signs quickly can help someone receive urgent treatment. Common warning signs include sudden weakness or numbness, particularly on one side of the body, difficulty speaking or understanding speech, changes in vision, severe dizziness or problems with balance.
National Stroke Week encourages people to learn these warning signs and understand the importance of acting quickly. The campaign continues into November, providing a week long opportunity building awareness before focusing attention on stroke prevention, recognition and recovery.
If you suspect someone is having a stroke, do not wait for symptoms to improve on their own. Seek emergency medical care immediately.
