National Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Day

National Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Day

Making room for different ways of thinking

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, commonly known as ADHD, is a neurodevelopmental condition that can affect attention, impulse control, activity levels and executive functioning. Its presentation varies from person to person, and the challenges experienced during childhood may look different from those experienced in adulthood.

National Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Day encourages greater understanding of ADHD and challenges misconceptions that can lead to unnecessary judgement. Difficulties with concentration, organisation or managing impulses should not simply be dismissed as laziness or a lack of effort.

With appropriate assessment and support, people with ADHD can develop strategies that work with their individual strengths and needs. Support may involve healthcare professionals, educators, families and workplaces working together to create environments where people can participate and thrive.
