International Day of Older Persons

International Day of Older Persons

Growing older should never mean being left behind

Ageing is a natural part of life, but the experience of growing older is different for everyone. Some people remain highly independent, while others may need additional support with mobility, healthcare, finances or everyday activities.

International Day of Older Persons recognises the contribution older people make to families and communities while drawing attention to the challenges that can accompany ageing. Loneliness, ageism, limited mobility and difficulty accessing healthcare can all affect quality of life.

Supporting older people does not always require grand gestures. Checking in regularly, helping someone access services, listening to their concerns and respecting their independence can make a meaningful difference.

Healthy ageing is about more than living longer. It is about having the opportunity to remain safe, connected, active and involved for as long as possible.
