HASA has partnered with the Cipla Foundation and the Western Cape Department of Health to establish a nursing surgery at the Esidulelweni Wellness Centre in Khayelitsha. This facility offers affordable healthcare services, including family planning, women’s health, HIV testing, and wound care, with fees ranging from R20 to R300.
Care that reaches further
An estimated 6,000 South African children are born each year with congenital heart defects. Most of them will eventually reach a public hospital waiting list. Some will not survive long enough to get there.
Off the waiting list
In the Western Cape, a prostate cancer patient arrived at Tygerberg Hospital with a diagnosis and no way to pay for treatment. His case was referred to Mediclinic, where a specialist performed a robotic-assisted prostatectomy – a procedure usually accessible only to patients with comprehensive medical aid. He walked out the next day.
Catching cancer before it catches you
A mammogram takes about twenty minutes. A cervical smear, a few minutes more. A PSA test for prostate cancer is a simple blood draw.
