The American Hospital Association has just released a new research report into community health. It “explores what the next generation of community health may look like as hospitals and health systems redefine themselves to keep pace with the changing health care landscape.” With the need for a strong primary healthcare system becoming increasingly apparent in South Africa as the country struggles to manage a ballooning burden of disease, serious doctor shortages and falling numbers of public sector hospital beds, the ideas of the AHA should be interesting to read.
