Econex – NHI funding options: making informed choices

There has been great uncertainty as to how the National Health Insurance as envisaged by the Department of Health could be financed, particularly in the difficult economic environment South Africa finds itself in. One suggestion has been to use the tax system in the country. The Hospital Association of South Africa commissioned economic research company Econex to study the feasibility of raising funds for the NHI through the tax system as part of its submission to the Davis Tax Commission.
