The Hospital Association of South Africa (HASA) has elected a new board for the coming year to help fulfil its aim of leading the industry, representing private hospitals and serving the interests of patients.
The board comprises representatives from HASA’s main members – Life Healthcare, Netcare, Mediclinic and the National Hospital Network (NHN). The organisation represents about 80% of the private hospital sector. Together, these groups own and manage approximately 220 hospitals, servicing 28 675 hospital beds.
Melanie Da Costa, who was re-elected chairperson for another term, said: “Despite the complexity and challenges of healthcare in South Africa, the newly elected board brings together individuals with deep insight and on-the-ground experience of delivering quality healthcare. By engaging proactively with government and all players in the healthcare sector, we hope to contribute positively to health reform initiatives.”
