The Hospital Association of South Africa (HASA) has learned with disappointment that President Ramaphosa will sign the National Health Insurance Bill on the 15th of May 2024 at the Union Buildings.
We have consistently supported universal access to healthcare and have for years contributed research and expert insight gained from our members’ operations in geographies with such systems.
Our contributions have been motivated by a desire to seek improvements to the NHI Bill for the practical attainment of the policy objective of universal access to healthcare.
In moving to sign the Bill, the President and the Cabinet have regrettably disregarded our views and our best advice. Â We sincerely believe the unfortunate consequence is that this version will hamper, rather than promote, access to quality healthcare for citizens in our country.
