Mexico – Their Sugar Tax Seems to be Working

According to a report in The Guardian newspaper in the United Kingdom, Mexico’s sugar tax seems to be working. The newspaper notes that academics around the world are carefully scrutinising the ongoing efficacy of the sugar tax in that country.An analysis of sugary-drink purchases, carried out by academics in Mexico and the United States, has found that the 5.5% drop in the first year after the tax was introduced was followed by a 9.7% decline in the second year, averaging 7.6% over the two-year period.The full newspaper reports can be found here.
